Serving Maple Shade, NJ Since 1912
The Maple Shade Fire Department is a completely volunteer department serving a community of 20,000 residents. The township is 3.2 square miles situated in western Burlington County. The demographics of Maple Shade include residential single-family homes, numerous garden apartments, commercial businesses and light industry. US highways Rt. 73 & Rt. 38 pass through the town, Maple Shade Fire Department responds to an average of 620 emergency calls a year. This number does not include any EMS services.

Lowe's Safety Day

MSFD brought our Fire Safety Trailer to Lowe's Safety Day. Children built their own fire truck in the morning activitiy. They were given a tour of the trailer and fire prevention tips in the afternoon portion. Thank you to Lowe's for the invite.


 
   
   
 
Training Grounds-Tower Evolutions

The weekly drill topic was high rise operations. Crews traveled to the County Fire Academy for the tower prop. Pumping, hoseline, and search operations were reviewed. Each crew was evaluated on their performance.


 
   
   
 
Fire Prevention Open House

Today was our annual Fire Prevention school visits and open house. All of the township day cares, elementary, and middle schools were visited. Our annual open house was from 6-9 p.m. There were fire truck rides, displays, rides, and handouts. The all day event was successful again this year. Thank you to the mutual aid companies that assisted.


 
   
   
 
Company Picnic and Storm Stand-by

The fire department picnic was held Saturday the 6th. Hurricane Hanna forced the party to be held inside the hall. Members had a good time despite the rain and winds. Firefighter Tunney assisted motorists traveling by the flooded firehouse street.


 
   
   
 
Car Fire

MSFD was dispatched Wed evening to a reported car fire at the Yellow Sub resturaunt on Forklanding Rd. 1010 arrived to find an engine compartment well involved with an exposure problem to the resturaunt. 1012 arrived and deployed an 1 3/4 line to extinguish the fire. 1011 manned an additional 1 3/4 for protecting the resturaunt.  The vehicle was a loss but no damage occured to the building.

 
 
Firehouse Expo

A few members traveled to Baltimore to attend the annual Firehouse Expo. This is a nationally recognoized fire service training and networking event. Firefighters are able to attend classes taught by fire service leaders and see new tools and products. Hands on Training classes were attended as well as classroom sessions. Friday night we took in a Baltimore Orioles baseball game for fire service night.

Township Parade and Fireworks

MSFD participated in the annual township 4th of July Parade and Fireworks. Our apparatus was displayed in the parade down Main St. Firefighters provided protection during the fireworks display. No incidents were reported.

NEW THERMAL IMAGING CAMERAS

Maple Shade Fire Department recieved a grant from the Columbia Bank Foundation to purchase 2 new MSA thermal imaging cameras. This grant saved the taxpayers of Maple Shade $18,420. These devices assist firefighters in located victims and hidden fire in smoke filled enviroments. Our current camera was approximately 10 years old and had some obvious wear and tear. Thank you to Columbia Bank in helping us acquire some much needed equipment.

 
   
   
 
ARI CAR SHOW

1012, 1019 and 1015 were part of the ARI annual car and truck show. There was plenty of food and classic car displays. Thanks to ARI for the invite and we look forward to coming again next year.

Two more new members have joined the ranks of the MSFD. Rich Craven is new to the fire service and will be attending Firefighter I in August. Chris Parks brings 9 years of experience from Cherry Hill Volunteer Fire Department #1 where he held the position of Assistant Chief.

MCGUIRE AIR SHOW

Rescue 1019 assisted McGuire Fire Department with the annual air show. The Rescue stood by at headquarters in case of any calls. The inclement weather canceled the show for the day. Thank you to McGuire for the invite again this year.

 
   
   
 
101 E MAIN ST-ALL COMPANIES IN SERVICE

MSFD was dispatched along with Moorestown Stations 313 and 311 to 101 E Main St for the building. 1010 arrived to find visible fire from the 2nd floor rear of the building. Companies extingusihed the fire quickly to prevent spread to any other apartments. Pennsauken RIT 11-1 assisted also.

1000 arrived with smoke and fire showing from the rear of the dwelling. 1011 layed a 4 inch supply line and led off with an 1 3/4 handline. Crews made a good stop on the rapidly advancing fire. MSFD was assisted by Moorestown Stations 313 and 311.

1010 arrived to find a large garage and van heavily involved. 1011 and Camden County 13-52 arrived and deployed 3 1 3/4 handlines to control the fire. A corvette, motorcycle, RV, and neighboring shed were damaged by the radiant heat. MSFD was assisted by Lenola station 313, Cherry Hill Engine 13-52, and Pennsauken RIT engine 11-11.
